Getting about
There are plenty of transport options in Vlas to enable you to get out and about to do a bit of sight-seeing, a bit of shopping or whatever takes your fancy.
The cheapest form of transport of all is the bus service that runs from the main road directly above RCN. The cost of a trip into Sunny Beach is 1 leva which is about 40 pence. Most of the buses go through the village square before coming back on to the main road and head for Sunny Beach and on to Nessebar. On occasion in the summer months, the buses are jam-packed and you might have to stand all the way. The trip to Sunny Beach takes about 10-15 minutes.
The next best value which also provides a good service (and a seat) is the minibus shuttle service that runs from the Riviera complex in front of RCN to Vlas, Sunny Beach and Nessebar. This service also operates a daily trip into Bourgas for 14 lev per head (about £5). The service allows you about 4 hours in Bourgas and they also provide a guide who will show you around when you get there.
There also plenty of taxis and minibuses just driving around who will offer you a lift - but before you get into any of them, make sure you negotiate the price and the currency. I've heard tell that a price has been agreed in lev (you think) but when you get to the other end you are told the price is in Euros. A price of about 10-15 Lev from/to Sunny Beach is about the norm but the taxi drivers will tell you its 20 Lev, especially late at night - negotiate.
Two taxi drivers I've used and feel can be trusted are:
Gencho Genchev (Tel: 0885104588)
Nasko Pashov (Tel: 0888313436)
Nasko's English is excellent and he is a big personality and seems to
have a never-ending stream of stories to tell. Highly recommended.
